Master Culturally Competent Care for First Responders & Law Enforcement

This training aims to equip mental health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide culturally competent care to law enforcement and first responders. Participants will explore the unique occupational culture, values, and stressors that influence help-seeking behaviors and therapeutic engagement.

The training will identify common barriers to trust and alliance, while offering practical strategies to develop rapport and improve treatment outcomes. The focus is on building effective, culturally responsive therapeutic relationships that will support resilience and long-term wellness.

• Explain contributors to mistrust of mental health professionals, including stigma, career concerns, and trauma exposure.
• Apply cultural competency principles when engaging law enforcement and first responders.
• Demonstrate rapport-building strategies, including pacing, managing avoidance, and reducing resistance.
• Explore clear boundaries and communicate confidentiality to build trust and reduce perceived career risk.
