This 2-hour  (asynchronous) continuing education workshop introduces mental health professionals to Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence-based, client-centered approach designed to enhance intrinsic motivation for change.

Participants will explore what MI is, including its theoretical foundations and guiding "spirit" of collaboration, acceptance, compassion, and evocation.
The training will highlight why MI is important, particularly in working with ambivalence, resistance, and behavior change across diverse clinical populations.

Tommy Black, Ph.D., LPC, LMHC, has worked in mental health since 1998, specializing in PTSD, forensic and custody evaluations, sex offender treatment, and crisis management. He frequently serves as an expert legal witness and has led clinical supervision and program development throughout his career. Dr. Black holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Northcentral University and has led Darsey, Black & Associates since 1998 and Atlantic Counseling Services since 2012.
